Obituary

Richard Carmen Lorenzo, Sr., 84, of Monongahela, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 3, 1942, in Webster, Pennsylvania, Richard was the son of the late Rose (Amatangelo) Lorenzo and Carmen Lorenzo.

He graduated from Rostraver High School in 1960 and went on to pursue a lifelong commitment to education, earning his bachelor's degree in teaching from California University in 1964 and his master's degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh in1966. Richard dedicated much of his professional life to helping others learn and grow. He spent many years in the Fort Cherry School District, where he served as an elementary school reading specialist and fifth-grade teacher. His love of math and accounting also afforded him the opportunity to run a small tax preparation business from his home. Following his retirement from public education, he continued sharing his knowledge as a professor of English at Westmoreland County Community College. He also earned his real estate license and helped individuals and families buy and sell their homes through Coldwell Banker Realty. Beyond his professional career, Richard was committed to serving his community.

He served as an auditor for Carroll Township and as a member of the Ringgold School Board. He also delivered Meals on Wheels to those in need and volunteered at church festivals as a longtime member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, formerly Transfiguration Church. Through his work, service, and volunteer efforts, Richard made a lasting contribution to the communities he called home.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his four children: Laura (Gene) Chabrier, Lisa (Pete) Donina, Richard (Kerry) Lorenzo Jr., and Matthew (Holly) Lorenzo; his nine grandchildren, Abigail, Madison, Nathan, Jacob, Theo, Sofia, Max, Violet, and Leo; his loving sister, Susan (Lorenzo) Arleth; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father in-law, Nancy (D'Emidio) and Arthur Sewell, his beloved wife, Roberta (Sewell) Lorenzo, with whom he shared fifty blessed years of marriage, and his brother-in-law Warren Arleth.

Richard will be remembered for his dedication to education, his commitment to his community, and the love he shared with his family. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched as a teacher, colleague, volunteer, and devoted family man. The family wishes to thank Denise Adams, Amber Crawford, Stacie Balf, Theresa Giovengo, the doctors and nursing staff at Fresenius Dialysis Clinic, and Freedom Transport staff and drivers for their longstanding care, kindness, and support.
